And so it died…

June 28, 2010

Close, so close
you sit beside me
feet drawn up,
the length of you struggling
to meld with mine…

And I, I force
a breath held fast,
scarcely aware
of how I’m exhaling
our life away…

Cold, so cold
I remember you
over the phone lines,
voice barely concealing
your urge to go…

“No”, you say no
not cold then, or now –
just busy…
always something else
that claimed you.

Hold, please hold
my shivering form,
warm the shell
as tentacles of ice
clutch at my core.

And I, I fold
post-it moments of us,
the colors melting away,
a white shoe-box crammed
with vacuity.
